Re: Missing Monday Nights
I determine who is on and off the field for performances. My policy uses the word "may" as consequence for absences. This gives me flexibility to do what is best for the program. They get a 0 for the rehearsal regardless of whether I let them march or travel at the end of the week. Take the power away from the parents. You lead the program.
Good morning YB.
I know many of us have our weekly after-school rehearsals on Monday nights.
For those students who miss your rehearsals what is their consequence?
Ours is they immediately do not perform on Friday unless by district standard it is an excused absence (family emergency, religious day, sick with doctor note, etc). On top of not performing they are still required to make up time to earn their grade for the missed rehearsal.
A parent brought it to my attention this week that they believe that having kids miss a performance AND have to make the grade up is a double punishment. I can understand where she's coming from but what I don't want to have kids deciding to skip Monday night and only stay an hour a day after school three days a week and call it "square."
So....what is your policy on this and how do you handle it?
