right on the NY list. When the NYSSMA list is revised they can, and do, take things off (not during every revision, but it does happen). What they do do, is they identify pieces that are considered "standard repertoire", and those pieces are on the list permanently, and are marked as such on the list.
So how much more Ticheli is needed? So they are good, OK, but when I go to conventions (TMEA, Midwest, TBA) I see lots of really great works that should be on the list - that oddly enough, are not composed by Ticheli. Seems like we do our students (and the state list) an injustice when it is packed with one or two composers. I have been around long enough to remember the PML committee taking off works by Grundmann, Jackson, C. T. Smith etc. because there were enough works on the list for directors to select from of those composers. This is not to say the works taken off were bad nor that they should have been taken off. I have always liked the NY list - once on, it stays on.
