Iíll bite. Just retired after 32 years and also successful. There are many quality directors. Donít be bitter. Just enjoy the last year and start a new chapter. Donít be hard on the young ones. They might not have any teacher retirement worth anything.
I am retiring at the end if this year 31 years with 30 sweepstakes combined with the recent changes to our profession inspire these deep rhoughts.
1. Knowing how to teach straight leg and organize a large trailer from their corps days, but do not know their fingerings or embrochures, etc should only be hired as technicians, not full time band directors. When they aquire band director skills (knowing fingerings, embrochures, reeds, how to work lines and chords at a basic level) they can then be teachers
