Re: Teaching assignment change
Great advice. You should think about taking it.
My first year of teaching band, I was at 5 elementary schools every day. I learned how to be organized! Looking back, it was a great experience. I also had a period of ISS in my schedule one year. That year, I was always caught up on paperwork and score study.
I'm in a union state now.
I had better job security in Texas, frankly.
There are pros and cons to both.
To address the OP - you can probably talk to a Texas techer organization and file something, but I'll encourage you to take those lemons and make something nice with it (find someone for whom life has handed them vodka, lol)
I once had the good fortune to open up a school. The choir director had four classes of choir and one of ISS. At first she was upset by it but it was only for the year and before we could blink twice, both our programs will full time and over 250 kids. She commented that looking in retrospect, that period of ISS was great because it was quiet, she caught up on grades, paperwork, filled out forms, and did a great deal of the administrivia that comes with any program.
I encourage you to look at the same while all growing the program to the point where you have to be in the band hall full time.
