Re: Bus Driving 4A Directors
I'm in a similar situation in my district. The reality is that the CDL comes in very handy, especially when last minute in-town performances pop up (grand openings, STAAR pep rally at an elementary, etc). In those cases, you're left requesting a bus instead of both a bus and driver. What can be frustrating is missing instructional time to drive for other organizations, which I've had to do from time to time because of the shortage of bus drivers. It's really easy to say that districts need to raise pay for drivers (which I believe they deserve) but that will either mean higher taxes or trimming the budget elsewhere.
I'm in a situation where my district is increasingly struggling to provide bus drivers for events during the week. We haven't been forced to get our CDL, but pragmatically it may not be an option soon. My question for TYB: How many of y'all have your CDL and drive to and from away games?
