Re: New Trumpet help
Get some bid pricing before you rule out Xenos. I’m not sure how you define “around” $1500, but we just got some new Xenos well under $2k from Music and Arts. Also, you could check to see if any drum corps are selling theirs (crown, Boston, Crossmen, and cadets are some that come to mind who use Xenos and sell them regularly). We bought a set a few years ago that were under $1500 each. I’d take used Xenos over new “intermediate” instruments any day.
If you have to go intermediate, the TR200 is the Bach step up to the student TR300. I’m not sure what the model of the Yamaha intermediate is. They are both decent. I’m not familiar with other intermediate brands/models so I don’t really have any other opinions except that I’d stay away from King Silver Flair. We have a vendor that pushes those for step ups to our kids that rent from them (because it’s the only step up they have access to) so we have several kids who have them. They are ok at best and have some pretty severe tuning “tendencies”. If kids that have them make their way into the top band, I usually end up making them play on one of our Xenos so we at least have a shit at being in tune.
I am needing to purchase several new trumpets for High School. Of course I would love to get Xenos or Strads but will probably have to settle with the price being around 1500 or less... So with that beings said what are some opinions on what to get?
