Re: I have (virtually) no marching experience.
Hey, I will tell you my story. When I graduated in 2011 I wanted to be a HS Director for a strong marching band but I never did Drum Corp just college marching. I started teaching in del rio in the 6th grade only campus and worked hard and was promoted to the 7th and 8th grade and earned a sweepstakes’s and was promoted to the HS my 3rd year. I took over the marching band as Del Rio is an isolated border town and they took a chance on me. I seeked mentorship from The CTJ staff and they were absolutely awesome, they are the real deal on and off the marching field folks. With their help and guidance and a staff that worked hard we managed to become 6a area finalists and BOA regional finalists. If it’s your dream, work to make it happen. If you can find a school with a lot of potential, surround yourself with great people on staff and with mentors. Listen and learn and the success will come. I much prefer my journey than just jumping on staff with a band that has already been great in the past. But everyone lives there lives how the want. Good Luck!
