Re: Sell me on CHARMS
1.) That depends. CHARMS does a lot at a very buggy, very mediocre level. If you're willing to have to stay on top of it, it does a great job of organizing things year to year for you without you have to go back and redo everything. If you let it slip though, it can become an unholy unmanageable nightmare. Do not let it be your only inventory or financial record, you're going to want backups.
2.) Depends on how good of a job they did of keeping everything up to date.
3.) You can pull down Excel spreadsheets of everything.
Chances are, since you're taking a middle school job, the high school will require you to have it so they can just import the kids that come over. There are some (semi-helpful) web training videos available to help you get going. Good luck!
Taking over a middle school that uses CHARMS. I've never used it and don't know what I'm missing. Is it worth the yearly subscription? Is it easy to jump into something that has already been created by the previous director? If I don't want to keep it, how hard is it to get everything off CHARMS before the subscription runs out?
