I had a great older mentor when I was a young director who helped me in similar situations. He had a dad quality in my career. As a mentor teacher, you have a responsibility to younger teachers that you hire to help protect them from these situations. If you hire a younger teacher, you need to try and teach them the boundaries, how to connect with students the correct way.
I feel like my generation kinda sucks at being mentors to the younger generation of teachers. My best advice would be to have the awkward conversation with the teacher, and let them know...hey, it's cool to go on rides with kids, but try not to stick to one group the whole time. Let all of the kids see the fun side, not just kids who are your favorites.
I'm not trying to put blame on you. I'm just offering advice that younger directors need direction, and try and be the light that guides them.
