If it were me looking at this situation, I'd be in talks with the powers that be about fixing the schedule. This is not sustainable for any program, but beginners and middle school are so dependent on having consistent instruction and reinforcement of concepts. You're going to hit a glass ceiling when it comes to what your kids can reasonably accomplish. Meet with your administration and help them understand that this needs to change if they want to have a successful band program. However, be ready for them to provide excuses on why this wouldn't be possible. Be ready for them to say that this is the only way the schedule can work out. If that's the case, you'll need to evaluate for yourself whether you can keep doing this. If I found myself in that position and I was told the admin was unwilling to do anything to better the situation, I'd very likely start sending out applications. I hate to say that, because I know none of us ever want to be in a position where we're abandoning students in a losing scheduling situation; however, it's really tough to win against a situation like that.
