The first grading period is the tough one. The state requires everyone to take grades for the first 6 weeks regardless of your district grading period. Students CAN lose eligibility at this time. To add to that, because your district is on a 9 week grading policy, students can lose eligibility again 3 weeks later!
However, the nice part- once you have your students passing that first 9 weeks, you are guaranteed to have them until Christmas. If they pass at Christmas, you have them until Spring break-ish. So, they are eligible for longer amounts of time. Also, once you are past that first 9 week mark, students can regain eligibility at the 3 and 6 week progress report. After the first 6 and 9 week, it has worked out pretty well! It was a struggle to educate the students, parents, AND STAFF at the HS that the progress report can potentially really help a student.
Hope that helps!
: My district is considering changing from 6

: regards to eligibility. Thanks!
