On Sunday, December 10 at 4:00 p.m., in Bates Recital Hall, The University of Texas Wind Ensemble will present their third performance of the 2017-2018 season. We would like to invite you and your students to join us live or for our HD Webcast. You may reserve complimentary tickets prior to noon on Friday by contacting: Ms. Alexandra Gotliboski at (512) 232-1903 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are excited to bring you a program that features works by John Mackey, Frank Ticheli, and Adam Schoenberg and we are also excited to feature Professor of Flute, Marianne Gedigian.
The concert opens with Mackey's Fanfare for Full Fathom Five, based on texts of Shakespeare's "The Tempest," and conducted by doctoral conducting associate Cheldon Williams. Following Fanfare, the Wind Ensemble will be joined by Professor Marianne Gedigian in a performance of Frank Ticheli's new concerto for flute, Silver Lining. Marianne Gedigian was a regular performer with the Boston Symphony Orchestra for over a decade, including several seasons as Acting Principal Flute under Seiji Ozawa. She has also been heard on several John Williams' movie scores, including "Saving Private Ryan" and "Schindler's List." Her solo performances have taken her around the world, including recitals in Japan, Australia, England, and Armenia and she has appeared as concerto soloist numerous times with the Boston Pops Orchestra and with the Armenian Philharmonic performing her own transcription of the Khachaturian Violin Concerto. She was featured with Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull fame in a performance at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. She keeps an active schedule as a chamber musician as a founding member of the Boston-based Walden Chamber Players and was formerly a member of the Dorian Wind Quintet. Ms. Gedigian is on the summer faculty at the Brevard Music Center, and has served on the faculties of Boston University's College of Fine Arts, The Boston Conservatory, the Round Top International Institute, and the Tanglewood Music Center.
Following intermission, the program will continue with a newly created wind transcription of recent Grammy nominee Adam Schoenberg's Finding Rothko, inspired by paintings of Mark Rothko, transcribed and conducted by doctoral conducting associate, Lance Sample. We will close with John Mackey's The Frozen Cathedral.
