Let's say, for discussion sake, there are 20 kids auditioning. A kid would need to be in the top 10 in order to continue the audition. Well, with 5 judges opinions in play, what certainty do we have that all 5 judges will have the same 10 kids in the top half? We would have to employ some kind of "judge's preference" in order to get a consensus on which kids are the top 10 players. In essence, do the same thing the tabulation room does when we turn in our sheets. The time we gain in cutting down to the top ten players will get eaten up by making the tabulations to find out who is in the top ten. To me, this makes it a wash.
: As an answer to the time spent judging Region
: tryouts, why don't we have a barrier?
: Students must finish in the top half on
: scales or for percussion the top half of the
: Snare Etude to advance. This would allow us
: more mental energy to listen to students
: that are more prepared and also make things
: easier for our host schools by reducing the
: amount of time that the contest takes.
