There was even one year (I want to say 1987), that I had to audition on 2 mallet etudes, 2 timpani etudes, 2 snare etudes, cymbals and tambourine! Any older guys remember that? It was usually 2 of the major instruments, but that year they added the accessories. I almost want to say bass drum was a part of it, too!
Barriers may be good, but only for some groups. Your mileage may vary.
: As an answer to the time spent judging Region
: tryouts, why don't we have a barrier?
: Students must finish in the top half on
: scales or for percussion the top half of the
: Snare Etude to advance. This would allow us
: more mental energy to listen to students
: that are more prepared and also make things
: easier for our host schools by reducing the
: amount of time that the contest takes.
