however, not all regions use scales as part of the audition process. i've been in regions where scales and sight-reading were used, just scales, and now the region i'm in uses only the etudes. sometimes, it's hard to tell a kid no when they really worked on the material but do not have the ability to perform at level. you know, i really like golf, but would be devastated if someone made me quite after 4 holes because i wasn't good enough to score well........ : )
