Good luck finding a place to rent a pro horn. If the kid/family can swing it, most music stores are running sales right now and many of 0% financing deals.
Maybe see if you can pull some strings and borrow a pro horn? I don't have one, but if you post your location, maybe someone will help you out.
: I have a senior Tenor Sax student that has
: made it to area for the fourth time in a row
: but the past 3 times he has gotten closer
: and closer but not enough to make it to
: state. Our region tryouts were yesterday and
: he was far any away above everyone else. But
: at area, only the top spot goes to state. He
: did the area taping for jazz and out of 34
: tenors, he was 6th. Right now he is playing
: on a Yamaha 480 tenor, but lately we have
: been having octave key trouble. With that I
: am thinking of three options: take the
: instrument in for a complete overhaul
: repair, repair the instrument and purchase a
: new neck, or find a way to rent a
: professional tenor for the rest of the year.
: I really canít afford to purchase a
: professional tenor outright and neither can
: he right now. I am getting ready to purchase
: new instruments for the year and a
: professional tenor was not part of it.
