30 minute lessons:
-10 minutes of fundamentals (schlossberg for tone, arban for articulation, Joe Dixon KOW (key of the week) exercises, various other resources depending on the kid)
-2 minutes of them performing whatever they were asked to work on
-15 minutes of making improvements through discussion, guided practice, echoing, demonstrating, music theory, deconstructing, practice techniques - air only, buzzing, etc
-3 minutes of setting the next goals
Iím a big fan of doing drones, air only, buzzing (many different methods), music theory, and asking more questions rather than supplying answers. I only ask kids to play if itís going to sound better, I rarely hear anything just for the sake of letting a kid play. Practice rooms are too small to subject myself to that!
