The iPad DOCKS into the mixer, and it was made for a gen1 iPad. So, no case is possible. We did construct a cover to put over the iPad for bright sunlight, but why deal with that bullcrap when a tactile, physical mixer with actual faders you touch with your fingers will easily suffice. You cannot get the same level of tweaking when you're trying to drag a virtual fader.
I've had this setup for about 4 years now, so I've "practiced" and have no problem understanding how to use this virtual mixer app. It leaves way too much, however, to malfunctions. Maybe someone forgot to charge the iPad. You're screwed. Maybe the iPad is "too hot" (you know how it gives you that message and won't function? Uh, this is Texas and that happens a lot). Maybe the iPad app won't sync--it must do this every time it is used and you can't count on it always happening. You accidentally tap one tiny little button and the whole mixer screen switches to a totally different mixer screen for an alternate setup. The kid operating it has no idea what happened and the entire system goes down. Plus, that lovely little feature's panel of buttons is about a micrometer away from the virtual faders for the Mains! So often a kid is like "what happened?" and I have to go over and reset it back to the main mixer screen.
