: They saw the growth of custom shows and are
: now looking for more profit. I loved my last
: 14 years of marching band with well written
: shows. My first was written by John Mehan
: (sp?). He writes for the blue devils. At
: that time the cost of the book with all
: rights secured was 1000. Last year I paid
: over $1000 just for the rights.
: It wasn't near as good.....but do you
: remember the days when we picked our contest
: show from listening to cassettes and buying
: the music at TBA. We then wrote our drill
: after the first week of summer band? Usually
: staying up late Sunday night to finish! Plus
: summer band was the last two weeks of
: August. Then we practiced about 3 hours a
: week after school when the year started.
: The shows weren't great, but they were cheap
: and you didn't have to consult with a design
: team. Also, guard work was written and
: taught by your current "flag"
: I still enjoyed last year more than the
: past, but we did have an easier life back
: One last thought, how many of you remember
: borrowing music written by Barry Hurt from
: him before he realized that he could make
: money! He would send you the score and one
: of each part. He didn't realize what a great
: arranger he was at that time!
