It wasn't near as good.....but do you remember the days when we picked our contest show from listening to cassettes and buying the music at TBA. We then wrote our drill after the first week of summer band? Usually staying up late Sunday night to finish! Plus summer band was the last two weeks of August. Then we practiced about 3 hours a week after school when the year started.
The shows weren't great, but they were cheap and you didn't have to consult with a design team. Also, guard work was written and taught by your current "flag" captain.
I still enjoyed last year more than the past, but we did have an easier life back then...
One last thought, how many of you remember borrowing music written by Barry Hurt from him before he realized that he could make money! He would send you the score and one of each part. He didn't realize what a great arranger he was at that time!
