If you stay out a year and then go back to work in public school (you can teach in private school without a penalty) the district gets charged as if you are a non retired/rehired teacher AND if the district wants to it can deduct what they are charged from you pay check. And you do not pay into TRS or get a bump in your annuity.
I currently lose $900 month from my paycheck. I just love to teach. My accountant has figured out a way to get a credit for the payments since it is a cost of working for me.
