If you go out to eat twice a week, and enjoy a single beverage at those places, you're spending about $7 per night out, times four and a half weeks a month. That's $63. If you have two drinks every time, double it. If you buy a six pack of beer/bottle of wine once a week, take that $63 and add the $10 for the take-home per week - you're at $108.
If you figure two nights out, three drinks (normal for a night-on-the-town young director), and a weekly take-home, you get $234 monthly. There's your raise. Also - this assumes a $7 drink. Many mixed drinks, better wines, and craft beers cost a couple bucks more than that.
(One sees similar financial benefits if one quits smoking, too.)
