Conversations with my appraiser the last few years went something like, "Will this get me more money?" "No." "Will it cause me to lose my job?" "No." "No offense, but you do realize that I'm not going to do this, right?" "I completely understand."
: I had more distinguished than accomplished
: this year (our first year on T-TESS). I
: should have had another distinguished (or at
: least accomplished). But I got a developing
: on domain 3.2 (managing student behavior).
: Why? Because I supposedly didn't use the
: campuses "magic words" every time
: I addressed the students. We use CHAMPS for
: our district classroom management (actually,
: we use two different, and conflicting,
: systems. Guess how our behavior is). We
: are supposed to have a sign with our CHAMPS
: procedures posted in the room. I have 10.
: They are everywhere a student would ever be.
: My students have be so well trained (and
: that is what CHAMPS is for, to train the
: students how to act) that I don't need to
: use the "magic words". The
: principal (my appraiser) even commented in
: that domain how well my students behaved and
: how well run and organized the class was.
: Yet, because he didn't see evidence of
: CHAMPS he gave me developing. I explained
: to him that if the students are behaving
: well I shouldn't need to use the language
: and that I had my posters all over the place
: in the room. Didn't matter, it still stayed
: developing. But, come to find out, the
: campus administration had decided to give
: everyone developing for that domain so they
: would be aware of the need to keep using and
: working on the CHAMPS system. That made me
: even madder. Since my first year of
: teaching I have always had high marks on my
: evaluations (always more "exceeds
: expectations" than anything else, and
: nothing below "proficient"), so it
: really gets me when I am dinged for
: something erroneously, and even more so when
: there was collusion between the
: administrators to "ding" everyone
: on the same domain for no reason at all.
: THIS is not legal. But, trying to fight it
: in our district is the fastest way to get
: fired. People have been fired (immediately)
: for less.

: So a friend of mine got hit really hard on
: Reason: inadequate amount of Saturday
: tutoring on their part.
: Is this legal? I'm still trying to
: understand this new evaluation instrument.
