That could just be Viper being sarcastic as you said, or she could truly be the mother of Jessica Drew, as Claremont showed us in the early years of the 1980's. It would be a retcon I would not mind at all, as it was dumb of DeMatteis, whose work I loved on Captain America, retconned to a drug induced hallucination. How messed up can someone be whose mother is an international terrorist who has dreamed of playing twister with the guts of Captain America and bathing in the blood of Nick Fury? I'd want it to be a hallucination as well, if my mom were basically Marvel's version of Cobra Commander whose plans actually WORKED and didn't run away at the first sign of GI JOE.
Something tells me that Jess don't celebrate Mother's Day.
