I SHOULD have been a bit more eagle eyed when one of the last AVENGERS issues came out, with the meeting of the Skrulls where they discuss what to do with the Sentry. The Queen was there and she was in Jessica Drew guise. Can't believe I missed that.
At this point, I am either very disappointed..and on eggshells. All these years to bring back a character, interviews discussing a love of the character..all shot to the shore when the past few years have been an imposter? I am disappointed, and at the same time..interested.
However...of all the characters "replaced", there has been NO confirmation of the characters being killed off by the Skrulls, not from Bendis or anyone else. No one knows where Elektra is, though it is speculated that she is dead,knowing her past. Nothing about Jarvis, Pym, et al. People have speculated that they are being held somewhere , MATRIX style or even Wampa Ice Creature style, their minds being studied and powers being studied and such.
Folks are STILL speculating that it's the real deal messing with Tony Stark, part of Nick Fury's master plan to counteract the Skrulls. But if that's the case, what's with the psych war? And how in perdition can she perfectly imitate an alien empress, the QUEEN of the darn Skrulls?
And if it was never Spider-Woman the whole time, what about the whole Nick Fury connection? Did he know she was a Skrull, the Skrull Queen nonetheless, and fed her info the whole time? Or is this part of a bigger puzzle? If he did feed her legitimate info and thought she was the real Jessica Drew, so much for his counter plans.
At this point, everything is up in the air. ORIGIN, HOUSE OF M, the CIVIL WAR issue, you name it. I am hoping at least the majority of the Spider Woman we've seen has NOT been the Skrull queen, as interesting as she is. Of course, I'd like a showdown between Veranke and Spider-Woman. WIZARD WORLD CHICAGO is at the end of this month, right around when NEW AVENGERS #42 hits. He did say on his board that he'll have announcements that will annoy and delight. This can be one of the best Spider-Woman stories..or "Spider-Woman" stories , if you please.
