Hi, I am wondering if you ever got any responses on why it is called "soft ball"? We have a ball that looks like a soft ball and it is really soft. The seams are on the outside and there is absolutely nothing hard about it. The ball belonged to my father-in-law's family and never was hard apparently. He had it from the early 1900s. Their family called it the mush ball and they used it to ensure that any young children playing with it wouldn't get hurt. Did you ever get any pictures of what early softballs looked like?
Thanks
