Posted by Galen Fous on 8/1/2006, 5:22 pm Friends of Baseball (FOB), after successfully initiating its grant programs in support of youth baseball/softball in the Northwest Oregon region, is now setting its vision on developing a national presence. FOB is actively inviting existing groups, organizations, businesses or individuals that would like to explore creating a FOB chapter in your local area to contact us. Inspired by a father and son bond formed years earlier through the love of baseball, a Portland businessman has created a million dollar foundation to support youth baseball/softball in Northwest Oregon. Keenan Longcor, who reflects fondly on his experience with his son Ben, established the (FOB) Foundation earlier this year. The Foundation awards grants to help struggling baseball/softball leagues succeed. An important part of the Foundation’s mission is to support groups that enrich youth / parent relationships and to promote life lessons of good sportsmanship and teamwork. “I have been fortunate in my business and I felt it was time to give back to the sport and the community that helped create lifelong memories for both my son and me. It is my hope that through the Friends of Baseball, other parents and children will kindle a similar bond found in sharing the sport that has so many lifelong lessons.” Keenan Longcor, Friends of Baseball founder. To facilitate the distribution of the grants in Oregon, FOB has partnered with the Oregon Sports Authority Foundation. OSAF has established a separate fund specifically to receive and distribute funds on behalf of FOB. “When we became aware of Friends of Baseball, the Foundation immediately saw how beneficial the grants would be in supporting hundreds of deserving youngsters and their families in Northwest Oregon,” said Drew Mahalic, CEO Oregon Sports Authority Foundation. If you feel your community may benefit from a local chapter of Friends of Baseball, or you know others who do, please contact us.
