Sims Chat: help

I have just recently installed the Sims 2 family fun pack, and I have all of the Sims 2 expansion packs installed, but for some reason I can not delete custom content from my game while I am playing it?? For instance, if I am in buy mode, and I want to delete something that is custom content, the little trash can in the corner is not there? I have never had a problem with this before....can anyone please help me?
