: I hate to disagree, but Morrison is at his
: "best" when he's not writing
: superheroes. In fact, he's gone on record
: to say that he loathes superheroes and
: superhero comics.
:
: You can find where he said that on his early
: blog posts.

: Yes, DC can be and has been that
: unimaginative.
:
: The fact that Grant Morrison is writing this
: fills me with dread.
:
: Morrison can create magic when he writes
: but he can also write some stinkers.I think
: he could be perfect for Captain Marvel and
: company-especially in a Earth-S
: setting.Morrison is at his best when he
: tells stories that arent just standard
: superhero fare.Shazam world needs to be
: different than Earth-1 with a look and feel
: all its own.The artists are going to be very
: important for this to come across as well.I
: still think if D.C. allows them freedom to
: capture the old Shazam magic and do so in a
: modern setting Morrison can pull it off.We
: wownt know for sure until we see the
: finished series but I do have high hopes.By
: the way-on the problem you talked about
: below-there will always be someone willing
: to tear others efforts down and be-little
: your efforts.Never let that stop you from
: doing what you enjoy.I have read your
: threads and they are well thought out and
: use the Shazam background to show why you
: think each subject is relevant to your
: interpretation.That is giving a critical
: review-not plagarism-so keep on and dont
: worry about a nay-sayer.

It is because he is at his best when telling stories that are not standard superhero fare that makes me think he MIGHT be right for this project.I believe the Shazam world needs its own idenity and not just be Earth-S as a copy of earth-1 or new earth or whatever the heck its called these days.
I think the guy that wrote "The Coyote Gospel" in Animal Man-indeed his whole Animal Man series can bring cant bring the whole weird and wonderful cast of Thunderworld alive. As I have already said though it cant be just a Superman Family on a different world story or it will fail(to me)and be no fun at all. Also the right artists must be attached and they seem to be doind that. They will also have to be given the freedom to tell the stories the way they want to and thats a pretty big obsticle in D.C. and Marvel comics.I am encouraged more by D.C. these days in that they may allow that to happen.
Having said all that I am just putting my opinion here and dont have a clue which direction they will go with the title. My preference is they take the golden and silver age appeal of Captain Marvel and give it a modern twist that will catch new readers as well. That is indeed a pretty tall order-and I dont know if it can be done.I will also say there are some other writers and artists that have perspectives and story telling styles that would be interesting to see but thats another post for another day.
