Our local livestock auction house has started doing amish horse auctions regularly. Half the horses end up bought for slaughter. There are some very beautiful saddlebreds, also morgans, and other grade riding horses, along with the standardbreds and drafts. There are about 200 put through each sale and not enough buyers. I have seen some sell as low as $35! Meat prices are high right now and to save them from the killer, it runs about $250.-$300. If you are interested, please contact me for more details. The next auction is April 15th, the sales are in Canandaigua, NY.
