Posted by CP on 11/14/2001, 12:05 pm I went to a local electronics store a few nights ago just to browse. Luckily a young guy I know was working. He explained a little about some of the differences in recent videocameras. I saw a couple that look like the one you posted the pic of. That size seems ideal for candid work, especially here in Japan where there is not much space on restaurant tables to put such an item. Plus, like you said, you could shield the screen with your palm so those sitting near you wouldn't see whether you were filming or just watching previously recorded stuff. The guy showing me the Sony models did point out the two different tapes. Both are smaller than the 8mm size I've been using for quite a while, but one was especially small. They only have a 60 minute tape for it now (he didn't mention that it could only actually record 45 minutes' worth (?)) Next time I go back I'll see if the smaller one is DV Cam or MIni DV. Glad you think Mac is a good way to go. Especially with their models that can record on both CD-R and DVD, and the iMovie software that is included I believe, it does seem to offer advantages over PCs. I've heard terrible things about Sony Vaios, so wasn't surprised when you joked that you would trade yours for a good loaf of bread. Especially, their laptops are very fragile I've heard. Well, thanks for your advice, Adam. After being so interested in your posts, I've wondered if maybe there wouldn't be interest in our community for a kind of technical related board. There really is a lot of information to share and learn, and I know firsthand that there are quite a few professionals with varying types of expertise within our community that would probably enjoy a board where that kind of information flow can be had while also talking about videoing scenes involving women and smoke.
First of all, my mistake saying you offered DVDs at IRL. Thanks for pointing out you offer VCDs, not DVDs. (In addition to your tapes, of course.)
