Posted by CP on 6/18/2001, 9:50 am From the Japan Times, an English newspaper published in Japan: According to a survey conducted by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, 40% of women who smoked before becoming pregnant continued to do so even after becoming pregnant. The survey, conducted earlier this year, questioned about 1,500 pregnant women in 4 large-scale medical institutions around Japan. 22% of these women answered they were regular smokers before becoming pregnant and of this 22%, 40% continued to smoke during pregnancy. Most of them knew the possibily harmful effects to the baby, about 8% thought that the baby would not be affected. 64% of the total number surveyed said they were in daily contact with second hand smoke.
I received the following from Bill P. (Maybe some of you know him from the pics he has forwarded in the past to Asian Smoke and other sites.)
