Convert a 226 from 40 to 9mm

This may be an old line, but I was wondering if the 9mm slide would fit a 357/ 40 cal 226 frame? I know there are conversion barrels for 40cal to 9mm, but on eBay it would almost cost less to just get the whole upper half. Any insight would be apreciated.
