Posted by Sam The patient was Darrell Rector, Seaman 1c, 19 years old at the time. My cousin, Wheeler B. Lipes, Parmacist Mate 1c, performed the appendectomy. It was reported that Darrell recovered and was back to full duty in 13 days. He died in combat ~2 years later aboard another vessel.
