Was there a corpsman that did an appendectomy onboard your ship?

Please help me I am trying to find out the name of the patient that was operated onboard ship at the begginning of WWII I read that there was an appendectomy done on your ship.
I may be related to that patient through my grandfather I think this persons name was RECTOR any help would be welcomed.
