Posted by John Scherer on 8/26/2002, 8:59 pm I am presently working for the IRS. I am one of those terrible people you hear about. I am an Internal Revenue Agent. Prior to working for the IRS I worked for the Department of Defense, the Dept. Of Air Force as a Quality Assurance Evaluator. I liked that job. However, the air force base near my house closed and the IRS was the next closest Federal job. Since, I have a degree in accounting I turned in my tool bag and picked up a brief case. The rest of the story is one audit after another for eight years, now. I was an IC man on the boat. After I got out in 1979, I went to school and got a degree in electronics. I worked at McClellan AFB as an electronic mechanic for several years. While I worked I also went to school to become an accountant. Thank god! If I had not got a degree in accounting I would have been out of a job when the base closed. As it turned out I went to work at the IRS just before the base closed. Some where between 1979 and now I met my wife. Helen. Helen is 100% Greek. Have you seen a movie called My Big Fat Greek Wedding. If you have a chance to see it you should. I met Helen while working in Greece. I actually met Helen while on TDY from McClellan for six months to Greece. Well, that was 1986. In 1988, Helen and I moved to Greece and lived outside of Athens for 4 years. Next, time I will have to tell you about life in Sacramento. For now, I will say it is hot. John
I was not sure if your were a torpedoman or a MM. I guessed wrong. Do you remember Clifford Tayor. I wish that I could find him. He was a nice guy. Probably he was a lifer. He must have been on board when you were.
