Interesting question but I just know the answers are going to vary across the board. On blessing of sailboat is that there isn't one design out there that does everthing well. Otherwise, our waters would be a lot less interesting.
I like a lot of old-world charm. Something that sails with the trailing sounds of cameras going off. Something that, when you round the corner hiking back to your boat, takes your breath away. There are a number of these boats out there in plans like Welsford's Penguin which would make a wonderful production boat if possible.
Another fun boat would be Atkin's Bluestone (http://www.duckworksbbs.com/plans/gavin/bluestone/index.htm) which flies in the face of traditional trailerables by emphasizing sailing functionality over boxy accomodation. The cat ketch sprit rig is extraordinarily versatile giving a boat that could be sailed into dock with ease. A few pulls on the oars would finish the job should the wind die and being able to try upright on legs!
