I agree. Boats intended for offshore voyaging need to be built to a higher standard; with watertight integrity. I just finished building this Montgomery 17 for a long offshore voyage; down thru Mexico; across the Pacific; thru Austrailian waters; thru Indonesia; across the Indian Ocean and ending up
in South Africa. This boat is watertight; with a special bulkhead door;she carries 100 days of water and food; lights are solar powered and charged; no engine or engine mount; just 12 feet custom aluminum sweeps that break-down to 6 footers for storage; all stainess ports by lewmar; ritchie compass; Norvane Windvane steering; some extra cleats and hardpoints for a harness; Seaswing Stove with several mounts. This boat is unsinkable and uncapsizable. She is self righting and watertight. She will be singlehanded over the next 15 months.
I sure had fun building her.
