I've never felt unsafe in a small boat. Even with water pouring over the gunnel during a bad tack. I feel that if my small boat gets into trouble, for whatever reason, I can handle it easier than my larger sailboat. I always feel I have more control with a small boat. Is it a false sense of security, or confidence I can handle (or manhandle) a small boat easier?
Not sure. I know in traffic, I feel safer/nimbler on a small motorcycle than a large one. Maybe it's the feeling that I can handle the weight of a small boat/bike easier. Again, false sense of security?
