Hi, Greg. Another great topic. As far as live recordings go, one that sticks out in my mind is Jackson Browne's 1977/78 album Running On Empty. At the time it was considered a novel concept because instead of live versions of familiar hits, Jackson's album was all brand new stuff that he hadn't previously recorded. Most of it was original material, although included was a cover of Maurice Williams' Stay.
I loved the title track because, as was the case with many of Jackson's songs, I could identify with the content in the song. At the time I was running on empty in a number of ways. And so were a lot of the friends "I used to turn to to pull me through." The song actually gave me a lot of comfort. He also performed it in the 1979 film No Nukes.
