Hi, everyone. I know everyone has a lot of different things going on in their lives keeping them away from cyber space and forums such as this. I'm no different--many of you know that I will be getting married this coming August and there have been a lot of changes as a result of that.
And I too am guilty of not being all that active here, or coming up with new, interesting topics. I really have to express my gratitude to DYNAMIC D and Greg for taking up the slack there, and I appreciate the efforts of both in general to keep some discussion going.
But it worries me that a lot of people have disappeared. I created this board almost eight years ago when I was just getting to know people on the web, and met several, like Gail, Rascal, Denny, Dustin and numerous others, who shared my passion for '60s rock. Dustin, as I've said before, really galvanized me to go ahead and set this board up when he made a few posts about The Beach Boys on a message board we both frequented at one time.
I really hope I didn't say anything that might have alienated regular visitors. I know that Vickie and Steve, two stalwart regulars, have all kinds of changes going on in their lives and don't have the opportunity to get online much at all these days. Others have dropped completely out of sight.
We've never had a huge network of posters here, which is fine. We've had a loyal group here, and we always made an attempt to make new posters feel welcome. A few years ago, I posted an off-topic (which I always allowed here from anyone) about the passing of Al Radka, a local radio/TV celebrity who was big in the '50s and '60s. I was blown away when I read replies about this from apparent locals. So that told me that a lot of people might visit this board who chose not to post. That's OK--I was the same way early on.
I've always tried to keep a spirit of tolerance and openness here, which is why I've always allowed off-topics. The only things I opposed, and continue to oppose, are spamming, pornography and personal attacks. My moderators and I on occasion have had to delete a few inappropriate posts, but thank goodness, not often.
And I was hoping there would be more thoughts on the passing of Bo Diddley. For me he defined rock and roll more than a lot of artists from his particular period. I only found out just three days ago that we lost Dan Fogelberg to prostate cancer, and he was only 56. Somebody else I admired a lot.
I'll close by saying I am interested in any thoughts you would like to share on this. Thanks.
-Roy
