Eddy Arnold, country music legend who sold over 85 million records from the 1940's to his last albums just a few years ago, died Thursday morning at a care facility near Nashville, just one week short of his 90th birthday.
His wife of 66 years, Sally, had died just last month. Later that same month, Mr. Arnold fell outside his home, injuing his hip.
"The Tennessee Plowboy", as he came to be known, began his string of hits with "Each Minute Seems A Million Years" in 1945. In early 1947, he began an incredible run of 28 consecutive #1 Country hits with "What Is Life Without Love".
Among his many other hits include: "Eddy's Song" (in which the lyrics are comprised of over a dozen song titles of Eddy's hits from the 40's and early 50's), "What's He Doing In My World?", "Room Full Of Roses", and the country/pop crossover classics "Make The World Go Away" and "The Last Word In Lonesome Is Me".
Early in his career, he was managed by Col. Tom Parker, who also managed another country superstar, Hank Snow, as well as you-know-who from Tupelo, Mississippi.
