Posted by Roy Mr. Spoelstra passed away on Feb. 25 at his home in the Sierra Foothills of CA. from cancer. About 16 years ago, when you could still check out LP's from the library, I found an Elektra album released in the early '60s titled The Blues Project. This featured songs by several artists which included Erik Von Schmidt, Dave Van Ronk, Danny Kalb and Geoff Muldaur. Mark Spoelstra did a great song titled France Blues which I think I listened to more than most of the other songs. But that's how I found out about him. In recent years he had worked in Yosemite National Park driving a shuttle, and it's possible I rode on one of his shuttles without knowing it was him behind the wheel. But I did get to meet him in 1999 when he performed at the Fresno Art Museum and I told him how much I loved France Blues. A link to his site is below. -Roy

Mark Spoelstra wasn't a rocker, but as a talented singer/musician, and a contemporary of Bob Dylan and John Sebastian, he had a great impact on the music of the '60s.
