Posted by Roy Gail sent me the Canoe article on Denny. I just happened to be running around yesterday with my pal Bruce and he'd gotten a newspaper. That's how I found out. Someone mentioned that Denny was the main voice rather than leader/songwriter John Phillips. I'd known that all along, from when I saw them perform California Dreamin' on Hullaballoo in early 1966. In the song Creeque Alley is the line "Zal (the late Zal Yanovsky from the Lovin' Spoonful) said 'Denny, you know there aren't many that can sing a song the way that you do'...he indeed possessed a very smooth tenor which I tried to emulate any time I'd sing along with one of their songs. Brother, now there's just Mama Michelle left. Hard to believe. -Roy

Hi, Rascal. It shocked me, too. Especially with this thing of losing my first cousin earlier this month.
