Hal Jordan the Green Lantern. Whether or not Capt. Marvel's appearance is short or not, she's still getting her powers from an alien and adopting part of his name. That's too close to GL for my tastes.

: Carol Danvers is a former U.S. pilet who just
: started her job at the N.A.S.A base. Then
: one night she finds herself in the middle of
: an alien attack as two ships battle and
: crash to earth. While trying to check the
: crash site, she's attacked by the Skrulls.
: That's when Captain Marvel comes out of the
: other ship and helps rescues her. But his
: ship soons explodes and she's caught in the
: blast, although Cap. Marvel throws his body
: over her to protect her.
:
: It's this blast that gives Carol her powers.
: And while she helps Captain Marvel hunt down
: the Skrulls to stop their evil plans, she
: starts learning how to control her powers.
: By the time Captain Marvel starts to look
: like he may lose to the Super Skrull, Carol
: finally becomes Ms. Marvel and helps defeat
: him. At the end of the movie, Carol decides
: to become a superhero and Cap. Marvel uses a
: spare ship to return to space.
:
: The only problem is she is instantly
: "second fiddle" to Captain Marvel.
: She gets her powers from him; when he tries
: to save her. For the rest of the movie; it
: wouldn't make sense for him not to save the
: day (since he would have the original powers
: and experience) over Carol.
:
: I love the idea of her starting off human
: and on a military base. And the idea of the
: Skrull invasion (Brood would be more
: appropriate, but a little too much Starship
: Troopers to work).
:
: Why not have a Kree person appear; during
: the conflict; and inform her she has ALWAYS
: been Ms. Marvel; but she doesn't know
: it/sleep agent. And she was sent to Earth
: to protect it. Maybe half Kree/human? And
: she now must become the hero she was born to
: be?
:
: You would also need a human/earth villain so
: it's not "perfect human earth vs. evil
: aliens/things that a different = evil".
: Henry Gyrich? Mystique posing as Henry
: Gyrich I'm still fuzzy on Carol Danver's
: history; so I can't come up with a better
: human/earth villain to interfere behind the
: scenes, sorry.
:
: I've been watching the West Wing lately;
: so Mary McCormack (Kate Harper) is right now
: who I'd want as Carol Danvers.
