"the thickness" doesn't amke much sense really.

I mean, are we even sure he's calling her fat? Personally I think it's absurd to call any Marvel character fat/untoned (unless it's Big Bertha); since all of them look like the finest gym specimens on the planet. Even Xavier is always ripped with his shirt off, and he's in a wheel chair!

I can't imagine Bendis honestly thinks Carol is "thick" in either intelligence or girth. I guess most writers suffers from the fact unless you want to put *%&% in your insult box, you're pretty limited to lame retorts and jabs. But I do agree with other posters, in terms of insulting female superheroes, weight would be where I'd go for my ego-deflating jibes :D
