Hey don't get mad at me, I hope you won't I know it's The Ms. Marvel board but this is predominantly original Mar-Vell oriented, but I figure since we're, as fans practically related,I'd share it with you, considering Brian Reed has elevated her to where she should be, one of the most influential characters in the MU.
It's just a question. I just felt it's something that could or possibly should be addressed.
That wasn't an easy job to be given.
Any true Mar-Vell fan "in my opinion", which is not law obviously, I think should give Steve Wacker some just due as well.
(and we could start an entire message board on Lee Weeks art and how it is not only great but works so well with Reed's writing.)
I know that some of us on here and out there do agree with it and some don't....Funny but both seem to have rationale to their thought processes. So no need to reaffirm your stance by cutting my post up, I had this thought we were all in this together. Am I the only one who remembers that? I mean am I the only one remembers when they said "No way can this ever happen" while readers watched less deserving, heck even less marketable get more? Or was that just some nobody Captain Mar-Vell geek dream of mine?
I don't know, it's the internet, probably a little bit of both.
I know in real life, it's one of the things that has inspired me to make some changes in my real life. No, I'm not calling it the Bible, although that is a huge factor in my real life comeback, but I'm not telling anyone else what to think by saying that, find your own path. I'm not talking religion here, be clear on that. I'm talking idealism, heck, I'm talking....as usual.
"It's the idea that counts."
We came this far, your letters, support of the mini, and your passion for this superhero 25 years gone, I believe, speculate, whatever you want to call it, has opened a door. Take that as you want.
I mean, really....25 years is a long time. Do you see what power you have just by excercising your voices? Yeah, I know some of you are skeptical of the whole Skrull issue, I respect what you have said, regardless of all that, man, isn't it amazing...look how far the Captain Mar-Vell fans have come, but it's not over yet....Matter of fact, can we all agree that even two years ago, isn't it amazing that we're even arguing over this "is it his spirit in a new body? is it a con? is it skrull-vell? is it really him just period?" and all of that stuff?
Keep writing.
Do any of you, regardless of your stance on the whole thing, think they expected this kind of turnout?
The thing that angers me is that somewhere the message is being lost, but that's my view it doesn' have to be yours.
I'm not questioning that any more, I got a strong message from this, I wish everyone did, I know a lot did, and I can't make everyone feel or think the same things I do. I understand that there are purists who want a certain way, and so forth, that's cool, but it might not end up being that picture perfect, maybe it will, I dunno, if I did I still wouldn't tell ya because it's cool people are talking about Captain Mar-Vell and the idea again.
I mean regardless of whatever, I think Reed did a heck of a job leaving doors open to the best of his ability to please all of these sectors of Captain Mar-Vell fans.
There's a lot of different ways that the reader is left his own freedom (man that's got to be the best word ever) to make his own mind up about how they take this story.
However, I do, and this is just my own two cents, think that...(how can I word this?) perhaps the game isn't over and the people who want Captain Marvel should not give up.
Here I go again. I'm really tying my best not to sound preachy or whatever.
I came to this conclusion:
Can we all agree to keep an open mind about it?
I mean, at least we're back in the game on some level, let's not quit. I mean you don't win a football game by playing 3 quarters of football.
Man, I am cornier than reddenbacher, I know that, you know that, but with my words, somehow I'm trying to be a Rickenbacker(not the guitar) in words.
Personally I'm happy, I know a lot that are, but for the ones who aren't completely I wish they were, I know things can be "tweaked over time" as a wise person said here, but this whole thing is not necessarily the end. At least we're in it again, you know?
Is this anoher rant or am I getting through?
I dunno, I can only do the best I can do, it's comic books, but somehow they can be more than just that. I'm just saying that because as goofy as it sounds and/or may be, some people are afraid to say it but know it's true.
Strange but true.
I know there were some people, not me, not about me, that were inspired in some weird, comic booky, Captain Mar-Vell-y, okay downright geekfest way, okay even real life comeback by this work.
Why don't we just stay the course and see how it all plays out?
Look at what your letters have done this far...it'd be kinda redundant, no "STRATEGICALY unintelligent" to turn back now, right?
I dunno, man, I liked it, I'm happy and I just don't think the fans should give up when the game isn't over yet.
Mar-Vell forever
Please don't forget the idea, if you give up after 5 issues, :::sigh::: "I implore you not to go down that road" - Walken (yes, that is yet another of my poor attempts at humor, nothing more)
I'm really suprised at the lack of recognization of Reed's leaving doors open in the story. Just my opinion, don't get all twisty on me, but the man worked hard and did a heckuva job and in my opinion he deserves some recognition for condensing a great, and classic, and ageless concept to a new generation while working his you know what off to keep the oldschool purists happy, that's all.
Can't please everybody I guess, but I have respect for the writing.
Thanks for listening to yet another of my rants, I hope I am improving on them...
-Respectfully

Look, once again, I am not affiliated in any way with these sites, but I think there's some real life Mar-Vell's out there.
