To Vanhelsin - some (hopefully) constructive comments... Mate, I usually enjoy your posts, but your one about 'not buying' the fact that Carol became an alcoholic, despite the fact you indicated you have NEVER read the relevant issues... unfortunately rang a little bit hollow.
I would encourage you to do some research... read both of Carol / Warbirds details on Binaryans site -see the number of appearances she made as Warbird; as well as her Wiki profile (links are on this message board).
Having personally read all the alcoholism-related appearances by Carol, at the time, I would have to disagree that her becoming that way was "weak sauce". At the time, Kurt Busieks (more than adequate) explanation of this related to the numerous troubles she had had in her past... the rogue stuff, her treatment by the Avengers with Marcus, the death of her boyfriend, the reduction in her powers etc... thats more than enough to drive anyone to drink. So, its not like it all came out of the blue
Yup, Kurt had a definate plan for Carol when he included her on the Avengers from Vol 3 No 4... yes, he had to give her a 'hook' to add some interest / growth to her inclusion... and this was a logical step in my opinion.
Carol ended up letting herself, Cap, Tony and the Team down on more than one occasion, she only resigned cos she was going to be kicked out... but in the end, she got help, and overcame this new obstacle. This triumph signalled the start of Carols 'rise' as a major player in the MU (something I have been waiting for!)
To me the salient point is NOT that Carol became an alcoholic... its that she OVERCAME this set-back, just like she has with all other setbacks... this shows carols Character, she is a fighter and a survivour... all in keeping with her mythos..
To turn this question on its head, I would say that it would be unbelievable for carol NOT to become an alcoholic after all she has been through. I make this judgement based on my own personal battle with the demon-drink since my best mate was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident. Alcohol deadens the senses... which is quite an enviable notion when one is experiencing a lot of pain, grief, sorrow, loss, disappointment, etc. I'm not saying I approve of that, but it is an understandable response.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion... I guess I would be MORE interested in what you thought once you had read the issues concerned.
Cheers
Cas

: When Carol was Warbird and I was not reading
: comics (I started reading in 2003-2004). I
: found it on Newsarama, but I don't have any
: other clues other then it is from around the

:
: And I did not buy the alcoholism, either.
: If She-Hulk cannot get drunk and Wolverine
: cannot get drunk (along with Spider-Woman),
: then why in hell would a woman who can
: absorb massive amounts of energy become an
: alcoholic? Emotional issues, absolutely.
: But alcoholism? Weak sauce.
