It is more dramatic and theatrical for Carol to remember her directly destroying the Brood world and turning the Queen into crystalline. Why else would the Brood hate her so much?
This may be a retcon. Then again, No-Name of the Warbound did say that the X-Men were responsible for the destruction of the homeworld. But No-Name was also pulling Carol by the hair in WORLD WAR HULK so maybe it was personal...
