Awww, poor Rudi. You know, he's ancient for a Dobe, since so many of them drop dead at 5 from cardiomyopathy.
Just tell your vet "I really want Rudi to have the best care, and this is so expensive... can you give me an Rx so I can order online?"
My orthopod is really bent on me using Dasuquin (the newer version of Cosequin) for Cedi, and wouldn't be happy if I got generics instead. It's costly (worse!) but I have to admit I'm worried about getting her the best useable glucosamine, etc. Apparently one problem with generic glucosamine formulas is that they don't have well regulated doses and may not be as bioavailable (if I'm not remembering wrong). Because this is an OTC ingredient, regulation is much worse and vets like these brand names because they are well tested.
